Deskercise: Welcome to 21st Century Fitness

Remember when work meant toiling away in a field sewing and reaping crops?

Neither do we. As we move further and further away from our ancestral past, it seems that more professions are shifting into the office chair. This transition toward white collar labor is making us more sedentary as a society, partly because we have to spend 8 hours in an office and partly because after our work, we are too tired and mentally exhausted to do anything else besides sit on the couch and watch television. While this is a generalization that hardly applies to everyone, it is a symptom of our society that is causing the early onset of spinal degeneration. If you are going to spend all day in front of your desk, it behooves you to deskercise!

Deskercise is fitness for the modern laborer

Because our jobs don’t keep us active enough, the onus is on us to take our health into our own hands. Deskercise is centered around working subtle movements into your time at work. As an office of chiropractic, we are biased towards stretches and movements that condition and tonify your core stabilizing muscles, and stretches for the hamstrings that dispel tightness that pulls on the lower back. Here are some examples that don’t even require you to stand up:

  • Simply suck in your belly button toward your spine and hold.
  • Squeeze your buttocks and hold for 10-15 seconds at a time
  • Straighten your legs and reach for your toes
  • Grab the back of your chair and gently twist to one side, then return to neutral and repeat on the other side.

Designing health solutions that fit your lifestyle

We help you design real solutions that take into account your particular health profile and level of fitness. We use natural modalities including chiropractic manipulation, mobilization, and deep tissue therapy to effect great changes in the way you look, feel and perform.
