Is Getting Enough Sleep Really that Important?

The short answer to the title of this blog: Yes. A resounding “Yes” as a matter of fact. Scorca Chiropractic would like to remind our patients and readership that getting 7-9 hours of restful sleep is essential.

Why? Well, there’s more than one reason.

First, your brain needs to recharge after the days events and detoxify itself, not to mention cleanse itself of plaque that gathers from chemicals, environmental toxins, and even stress. This plaque that gathers around the brain can have detrimental effects.

Don’t believe us? Amyloid proteins (clumps of beta-amyloid — which is part of a protein found normally in the brain) can end up clumping together, forming plaque that can disrupt nerve cell communication and cause detrimental brain inflammation.

Second, your body is regenerating during the sleep process. Your blood flows at a rate that it doesn’t during your waking hours, which promotes rehabilitation, even in areas of injury. In short, we heal ourselves in our sleep!

Getting enough sleep will also improve your mood and promote a healthy lifestyle. Contact Holmes Chiropractic today to learn how our adjustments can even help insomnia patients finally get a restful night of sleep.

Outdoor Workout Tips for Quarantine Life

It might seem impossible to get your outdoor time in amidst all of these COVID-19 restrictions, but it’s not illegal to go outside and get a workout in last time we checked. In order to get a safe workout in outdoors, it’s a good idea to do so during low traffic times.

What do we mean by low traffic times? Getting a run in at 5 or 6 in the morning is probably going to put you in a better position to come into contact with the least amount of people possible, while choosing to take your run at 9 or 10 in the morning might add up to different results.

The whole idea is to get your outdoor time that you need without intruding upon anyone else, while also being considerate of others. This means limiting your outdoor workouts to only what is essential, rather than going for that 10-mile run you might be craving. 3-5 miles is a perfectly acceptable alternative during this time.

Utilize your yard or your driveway if you have one available. Kettlebell workouts are great for outdoor routines and so are bodyweight exercises.

Quick and Easy Nutrition Tips

Health care

When optimizing your diet, it’s important to focus on the foods that get the best results for you — not all bodies are created equal, after all.

Scorca Chiropractic would like to take a time out from our normal “All Things Chiropractic” talk to focus on nutrition for a moment.

Right now it’s probably easy to fall into bad habits, eating takeout, and eating a lot of comfort food as we all shelter in place.

However, it’s important to remain vigilant. Now is the time to double-down on your dietary efforts to ensure you have a decent go at this COVID-19 pandemic business.

First, eat plenty of veggies. Make sure to eat plenty of clean — meaning, shop on the far sides of the grocery store and grab veggies, clean protein, fruits, and healthy carbs instead of processed foods.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Make sure you’re drinking at least half your body weight in ounces of water per day.

Eat plenty of berries for healthy antioxidants. Eat turmeric and ginger for anti-inflammatory benefits.

Chiropractic treatment is a great way to give your body a much-needed immune system boost. Contact Scorca Chiropractic today to learn more about how we’re providing essential treatments while helping the medical community during this trying time. We’re taking every measure and following every suggestion made by the CDC and other health authorities. We have a long track record of keeping our patients healthy and well for the long haul.

Tips to Keep Your Spine in Line

When it comes down to it, there are many activities we do each day and positions and distortions we put our body through each day that affects our spine alignment, which can result in neck, back, and even leg pain.

Below, Scorca Chiropractic goes over a few ways to keep your spine in line throughout the day.

Switch it Up

If you find yourself sitting at your desk often, try to stand more when you can while you’re working. Investing in an elevating desk or a standing desk converter will help you stay away from sitting throughout the day, which has an impact on your spine.

Stretch Throughout the Day

Try to incorporate an at-home Yoga routine that you can do each morning before you start your day — that way you’re feeling fresh and rejuvenated after a good night of sleep. Often, we sleep in awkward positions that leave us feeling like we just took part in a full-contact sport in the morning. Stretching the body will help you recalibrate your body for the day.
